Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou came to our little podunk university. She gave a wonderful lecture and Nicole (our copy editor) and myself got to go backstage to have a one-on-one with her. The woman was nothing short of delightfully sweet in the way that only grandmothers can be. When asked by Nicole what minority and non-minority students can do to help the campus with diversity issues, she insisted that we stop segregating ourselves and quoted Montaigne's "I am human so nothing that is human is foreign to me." She used the quote to inspire us that we could all do anything humanly possible.

Dimitri Martin Comes to Slippery Rock

Dimitri Martin came to town over the weekend (April 4) and I've always appreciated his comedy style, so I shelled out the $2 and got some photos for the paper. I even got a little involved with his act! Eat your heart out Ashley.

Needs More Photos

I went out to a plain ol' boring SGA meeting about the recent campus election and managed to get some fairly creative shots from a bunch of nothing. Unfortunately, since the bulk of the good ones are from behind and the subjects aren't facing the camera, the news ed. and EIC didn't really see them as appropriate for the paper. Oh well, when they actually do decide to run a photo, its composition is usually butchered when they decide to crop it anyway!
