Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou came to our little podunk university. She gave a wonderful lecture and Nicole (our copy editor) and myself got to go backstage to have a one-on-one with her. The woman was nothing short of delightfully sweet in the way that only grandmothers can be. When asked by Nicole what minority and non-minority students can do to help the campus with diversity issues, she insisted that we stop segregating ourselves and quoted Montaigne's "I am human so nothing that is human is foreign to me." She used the quote to inspire us that we could all do anything humanly possible.
